What’s covered
What homeowners insurance helps protect
Whether you’re buying your first home or reviewing your current policy, a Homeowners policy protects many of the things that matter most.
Your home
Helps protect the structure of your home if it’s damaged by a covered loss. Replacement cost limits are available up to $3,000,000, with higher values subject to underwriting review.
Other structures
Helps protect detached structures on your property, such as:
- Detached garages
- Storage sheds
- Fences
- Gazebos and workshops
Personal property
Helps protect the belongings that make your house feel like home, including furniture, clothing, electronics, appliances, and home décor. Additional protection for valuables may be available by endorsement.
Personal liability
If someone is injured on your property, or you’re found legally responsible for certain property damage, liability coverage may help provide financial protection. Limits up to $1,000,000 are available for homes with at least $500,000 in replacement cost coverage, subject to eligibility.
Loss of use
If a covered loss makes your home temporarily uninhabitable, Loss of Use may help pay additional living expenses while repairs are completed:
- Temporary housing
- Hotel accommodations
- Additional meal expenses
- Other necessary living costs
Hurricane coverage for other structures
For eligible homes, hurricane coverage may also be available for separately scheduled other structures.
Built for Florida
Owning a home in Florida means preparing for more than sunshine.
From hurricanes and tropical storms to heavy rainfall and wind events, Florida homeowners face unique risks. Orange Insurance designs its homeowners program specifically for Florida properties, with coverage options and endorsements that address the realities of owning a home in our state.
Your agent can help explain:
- How hurricane deductibles work
- Which deductible option fits your needs
- Windstorm coverage considerations
- Mitigation features that may affect eligibility and pricing
- Available coverage enhancements
If your policy includes wind coverage, it will include a separate hurricane deductible that applies to covered hurricane losses.
Deductibles, explained
If your policy includes wind coverage, it has two deductibles
A hurricane deductible applies to covered damage from a hurricane. An all other perils deductible applies to most other covered losses, like fire, theft, or a burst pipe. The hurricane deductible is usually a percentage of your home’s replacement cost limit, so it’s often larger.
Example: Your home is insured for $400,000. You chose a 2% hurricane deductible and a $1,000 all other perils deductible.
A kitchen fire
Covered damage: $15,000
All other perils deductible: $1,000
Policy pays $14,000
Hurricane roof damage
Covered damage: $25,000
Hurricane deductible: 2% × $400,000 = $8,000
Policy pays $17,000
This example is for illustration only and assumes the loss is covered on your policy. Your deductible options, limits, and how they apply are set out in your policy. Your Orange agent can walk you through the choices for your home.
